Dry Offset Printing:

What is "Dry Offset" Printing?

The Dry Offset Printing Process is a combination of Letter Press and Offset. Sometimes it is called "Letter Set". The Dry Offset process utilizes a paste type Ink that is kept in a reservoir or "Ink Fountain". A Fountain Roller takes a thin layer of ink out of the fountain and a "Dab Roller" Transfers small amounts of Ink to a Series of Steel, Rubber and Oscillating Rollers, that distribute the ink in a very even layer. The Form Rollers apply the ink to the raised area (image) of a Relief Type Printing Plate that is mounted on a Plate Cylinder. The image on the plate, transfers the ink to a rubber blanket attached to the Blanket Cylinder. The Blanket will transfer the ink to the Product.

Why is it called "Dry" Offset?

To differentiate this process from the standard Offset Printing Method used to print on Paper. The standard Offset Process uses water to wet some rollers to repel the ink. Dry Offset on the other hand does not use water or dampening rollers.

What are the advantages of Dry Offset Printing?

  1. Good Quality Process Printing.
  2. Multi Color (Up to 11 Colors)
  3. Relatively Inexpensive.
  4. Quick set up and Change overs.
